Snow and rain swept across parts of the East Coast on Sunday, marking the arrival of a powerful winter storm expected to batter the region through the night. Blizzard alerts and weather warnings were issued from Maryland to Massachusetts as conditions quickly deteriorated.
The National Weather Service said many areas could see 1 to 2 feet of snow, accompanied by strong winds and the risk of coastal flooding in some locations.
Blizzard warnings were in effect for New York City, Long Island, Boston, and coastal communities across New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. Officials in New York and New Jersey declared states of emergency ahead of the storm and began mobilizing response efforts.
The storm has the potential to disrupt regional and national supply chains as severe weather conditions impact air, ground, and port operations. Heavy snowfall, high winds, and limited visibility may lead to flight cancellations, highway closures, reduced trucking capacity, and temporary terminal slowdowns.
Cargo moving through major Northeast gateways could face delays, particularly as airports adjust schedules and drayage operations contend with hazardous road conditions. Even short-term closures can create downstream congestion as backlogs build once facilities reopen.
