Operating businesses in a dynamic environment in Asia gives us innumerable points of contact with society. Each of these interactions provides us with the opportunity to heighten our awareness of how we address social issues. To support our BDP Core Values and commitment to corporate social responsibilities (CSR) our team has taken on the welcome challenge to participate in initiatives like environmental preservation, giving back to our local communities, and helping those who need assistance.
With the mindset of, “Build to last, leave a mark”, we have formed the CSR committee in collaboration with BDP Cares efforts to govern and drive our efforts in Singapore.
“Good CSR practice underpinned by strong corporate culture and values is at the heart of how we do business at BDP Asia. We believe that our activities must benefit not only our business but also society as a whole,” shared by Gary Chan, Managing Director of BDP Asia Pacific, who is also the chairman of the committee. The key responsibility of the committee is to review, organize and execute CSR activities in a more systematic, and sustainable way. “We are proud to have many caring colleagues among us who volunteer their time and efforts to join the work on weekends,” Gary added.
While a single visit to the nursing home is a valuable experience and did brighten the day for the residents, an ongoing program is most effective. The most recent event was to take seniors from St. John’s Home out to do grocery shopping at a local supermarket. To help with the mobility challenges, transportation was arranged to pick up more than 30 seniors from the residence. In the mall, volunteers helped to push wheelchairs, to pick out items, and to offer assistance with reviewing sale flyers for weekly deals. After the shopping, lunch was offered at a restaurant in the mall, where we shared stories and laughs together.
We aim to make our core values of "We are a home, not a workplace” and “Together we are a family, not a workforce” a reality. It is therefore important to carry out through our CSR activities, followed by formulating strategies to guide us in this pursuit. Our committee is working on additional initiatives for 2018 and look forward to continuing our mission to live our values and giving back to our local communities!
