Talking Trade: Bottlenecks, capacity crunches, and everything in between, an ocean freight round-up

COVID-19. Labor shortages and workforce limitations. Capacity crunches. Weather disruptions. Bottlenecks. Port congestion. Idle fleets.

These are just a handful of the current issues that are prevalent within the ocean transportation industry at the moment, wreaking utter havoc on an already stressed market that has been pushed to the brink for the past 12 months. While the industry had collective hopes for positive signs of recovery in 2021, it doesn't appear to be anywhere on the immediate horizon.

As such, shippers must learn to navigate these newly murkier waters of the industry and attempt to mitigate impacts to their supply chains wherever possible.

In our latest episode of Talking Trade, Mr. Gene Welsh - Executive Director, Ocean Freight, joins the show to provide his expertise, which includes a full breakdown of what's happening in the ocean freight industry. We review the who, what, when, where, why, and how the industry got to this point; the latest stats on global idle fleets, dwell times, and the West Coast port situation; and carrier performance.
