In the latest installment of Talking Trade, I sat down with Melissa Pinheiro, Corporate Compliance Manager at BDP, to take an in-depth look at the Miscellaneous Tariff Bill (MTB). The MTB has been the subject of past blogs, but in this episode we review some of the specifics regarding how companies can use the MTB to their advantage for a temporary cost reduction or suspension of duties on certain US imports.
Most of these duty suspensions relate to chemicals or other inputs used by US manufacturers, who assert that the tariff relief provided by the MTB helps reduce their manufacturing costs, thus making their products more competitive.
It's important to keep in mind that there are certain criteria that must be met in order to be considered for MTB relief before a company can submit their petition.
The submission period is now open, but the window of time is limited to apply. Listen in for full details on the MTB, including how you can apply, what steps you should take prior to submitting a petition, and the deadline for submissions.
