February 5, 2019 - President Donald Trump in his State of the Union address said a trade deal with China will have to address not only what he called the chronic U.S. trade deficit but also changes in Chinese policies to protect American workers and businesses. The president also called on members of Congress to approve his new trade agreement with Mexico and Canada, saying it will lead to more manufacturing in the U.S.

February 5, 2019 - President Trump touted an "unprecedented economic boom" and hit each of the expected topics within trade policy and infrastructure development in his second State of the Union address Tuesday night. His comments on trade were short and direct, calling for passage of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) and the lesser-known Reciprocal Trade Act.

February 6, 2019 - The situation aboard the fire-stricken containership APL Vancouver is progressing favorably and is under control, according to the ship’s operator APL. APL Vancouver’s crew on board remained safe, APL said, adding that the company is in contact with the vessel’s Master and local authorities to coordinate all necessary actions.

February 5, 2019 - Industrial-grade 3D printing moves production closer to the point of use, changing relationships among suppliers, customers and service providers. Consulting firm Strategy& in 2015 estimated 41% of air cargo, 37% of ocean freight and 25% of truck freight is at risk from 3D printing. The degree to which supply chains could be impacted by 3D printing is only an educated guess at this point as the technology matures and companies come to understand how to make the best use of it.

February 5, 2019 - In an industry first, Hapag-Lloyd will convert a 15,000 TEU vessel to operate using liquefied natural gas (LNG), the shipping line announced Tuesday. A shipyard based in Shanghai will retrofit the "Sajir" containership's fuel system into a dual fuel engine, which allows the vessel to operate using LNG and low-sulfur fuel as a backup.

February 4, 2019 - After a difficult few years, the oil and gas exploration sector is back in the black – and keen to stay there, according to a new analysis from Wood Mackenzie. In 2018, exploration added at least 10.5 billion barrels of oil equivalent (boe) in conventional new field volumes. This was split 40:60 oil to gas.
