US to maintain lower tariff rates on China imports for 90 more days

The U.S. is extending its pause on additional retaliatory tariffs for imports from China until Nov. 10, according to an executive order signed by President Donald Trump on Monday.

The order said the extension is appropriate following “significant steps” from China on addressing U.S. trade concerns in ongoing discussions between the two countries.

Indonesia, Peru sign free trade deal

Indonesia and Peru signed a free trade agreement on Monday to strengthen bilateral trade and investment relations, the leaders of both countries said at a signing ceremony in Jakarta.

Indonesian exports to Peru totalled $331.2 million worth of goods in 2024, while imports from Peru stood at $149.6 million, according to Indonesian data.

Air India suspends Delhi-Washington flights due to plane shortages, Pakistan airspace ban

Air India will suspend services between New Delhi and Washington, D.C. from September due to aircraft shortages caused by upgrades to its Boeing planes and as Pakistan's airspace ban for Indian carriers affects its international routes.

The suspension will mean there are no flights between the two capital cities by an Indian airline, and comes amid rising tensions over U.S. President Donald Trump's high tariffs on Indian imports.

US imports hit near-record high in July 2025 surge

According to the latest Global Shipping Report from Descartes Systems Group, US container imports in July amounted to 2.62 million TEUs, marking an 18.2 per cent increase over June and up 2.6 per cent compared to July 2024.

This rebound follows slower import activity in May and June and comes within just 555 TEUs of the record set in May 2022.

Descartes analysts note that these numbers reflect not only the usual seasonal summer surge, but also evidence of importers frontloading shipments ahead of anticipated tariff and trade policy changes.

India Says 55% of Exports to U.S. Hit by New Trump Tariffs

More than half of India’s exports to the United States now face sharply higher duties after Washington’s latest trade move. The Indian government told Parliament on Monday that about 55% of shipments to its largest export market will be hit with a 25% reciprocal tariff starting August 7th.

OOCL adding new Asia – Mexico service

Hong Kong-headquartered Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL), a new route that will connect Mexico with Asia to strengthen comprehensive port coverage between the two territories.

The service Transpacific Latin Pacific 8 (TLP8) adds to four existing routes. The shipping company noted that ‘in addition to OOCL's existing TLP1, 2, 5 and 6 circuits, the new service will offer direct connections between China and Mexico with a competitive transit time of 16 and 20 days from Qingdao to Ensenada and Manzanillo, respectively.’
