April 5, 2019 - The border slowdown began on March 28, a day after CBP hosted a press conference in El Paso, Texas. With hundreds of migrants being apprehended and placed into custody each day, the federal agency said it needed to reassign its labor to deal with the situation.
CBP has moved nearly 750 officers from ports of entry along the Southwest border to support the growing crisis. This has impacted border movements with delays in cargo clearance as trucks wait to cross, often resulting in lengthy wait times or delays until the following day.
In anticipation of these delays, please ensure your business is allowing for sufficient order and truck planning time wherever possible.
The impacts are not expected to be short-term; please note rails and ocean ports are not affected, at this time the delays only apply to trucks crossing.
