Sembcorp Industries (Sembcorp) had to build a utility-scale energy storage facility and the project team was looking for a logistics provider that could design, develop and execute a solution within the required time frame.
This time-critical project had to be completed within a strict timeline of six months and had little room for errors and delays. Additional challenges include recurring road congestion and shortage of drivers. Sembcorp required a nimble logistics provider that could transport materials quickly and efficiently.
PSA engaged Sembcorp’s stakeholders in exploratory discussions about the project needs and performed a full assessment of Sembcorp’s domestic supply chain to design and develop a transportation plan.
The most efficient and eco-friendly approach was to deploy PSA’s extensive marine assets in the region, utilizing PSA’s Singapore terminal, Jurong Island terminal, and waterway barge to move Sembcorp’s cargo. Additionally, the team arranged for dedicated groups of drivers to engage in round-trip shuttles to maximize productivity and efficiency to keep Sembcorp’s supply chain flowing.
As a result of this unique solution, Sembcorp saw a reduction in transportation bottlenecks, as PSA’s domestic and marine network provided enhanced connectivity. PSA was able to complete all logistics-related activities in approximately three months, a remarkable achievement considering the tight timeline of the project. This partnership enabled Sembcorp to gain supply chain efficiency while minimizing its overall carbon emissions.
In December 2022, PSA was conferred the ‘Best Logistics Support Award’ by Sembcorp for the successful completion of the Sembcorp Energy Storage System on Jurong Island.
