To quote one of the greatest visionaries in American history, "well done is better than well said." (Benjamin Franklin)
At BDP International, we take this statement to heart: we don’t just talk about living our values of integrity, social responsibility, diversity, and being a family, not a workforce, but we exemplify these values by supporting several initiatives within our company that support both our BDP Family and our local communities.
The BDP Cares Employee Relief Fund (ERF) initiative began in 2013 after Super Storm Sandy ravaged the Northeast US, and BDP employees in the area suffered devastating loss to their homes and personal belongings. The ERF was established to provide basic necessities and financial relief to assist employees affected by the disaster. Fast forward to 2017, where the total funds raised for the ERF now total over $231,000, in large part from contributions given by BDP employees to help their fellow BDP family members affected by the tumultuous 2017 hurricane season. That’s one thing we do here at BDP: we answer the call. I’m always amazed and humbled by the generous outpouring of our employees, whether it’s helping their colleagues in a time of need, or organizing a food drive or holiday gift collection, the One BDP spirit runs deep across the organization.
I was also thrilled to unveil our Community Involvement Program at the beginning of this year, where all full time US employees have the opportunity to volunteer in local communities for a full work day, and receive a full day’s pay. That’s 9,600 hours of paid time available, and many of our US employees have taken advantage of this initiative and have volunteered with a variety of organizations. We’ve also had 75 community events where employees all over the world have participated in giving back to their local communities, whether by cleaning up a park, volunteering at an orphanage, or packing school bags with supplies for kids in need, to name a few. With plans to launch the Community Involvement Program globally in 2018, I know our BDP Family will not hesitate to answer the call and continue living our values through action in local communities. As 2017 comes to a close, I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve accomplished, but there is still a lot of great work to be done.
