ABOUT

  • The Singapore Food Agency’s (SFA) mission is to ensure and secure a supply of safe food for Singapore.

The Challenge

Singapore Food Agency (SFA) oversees and ensures the safety and resilience of Singapore’s global food supply sources. SFA sought a more advanced risk monitoring capability that could enhance its ability to respond proactively to disruptions and:

  • Provide a holistic view of food supply chain dynamics

  • Deliver earlier visibility into geopolitical, environmental, and sanitary risks
  • Enhance upstream visibility across supplier networks
  • Support faster, more informed decision-making during disruptions

The Solution

PSA BDP deployed its Risk Monitor platform, providing SFA with a centralized risk intelligence capability designed to strengthen supply chain visibility and resilience.

Key capabilities included:

  • Global Supplier Mapping: Interactive visualization of SFA’s supplier network to improve understanding of geographic exposure and supply concentration.
  • Risk Event Monitoring: Continuous monitoring of risk event categories, including geopolitical, environmental, transport and labor events that could impact food imports.
  • Multi-Tier Visibility: Integration of proprietary data with third-party customs manifest data across supplier networks.
  • Advanced Analytics & Data Fusion: Enhanced analysis of global food commodity flows and supplier dependencies to support proactive risk assessment.

The Result

The implementation of PSA BDP’s Risk Monitor delivered measurable improvements in SFA’s operational readiness and strategic oversight:

  • Faster response to disruption events:
(e.g. disease outbreaks in key poultry source countries): reduced reaction time from hours to minutes.
  • Enhanced network visibility and control: comprehensive view of suppliers, upstream dependencies, and food shipments to and from Singapore.
  • Stronger supply chain resilience:
improved ability to assess country and supplier concentration risks, monitor event exposure, and evaluate alternative sourcing and routing options.
